it's beautiful...

So yesterday I came across have you met miss jones and totally got distracted by the awesome coat rack reading "it's beautiful." I knew it had to be telephone wire and the lovely Miss Jones responded to my email straight away letting me know that it was a prop used from tractor home from Austrailia! To my delight they have a ton of super nifty stuff that I just love! All the work is created using rubbish (I love that they use that word!) for the Wola Nani project, which helps provide employment to artisans living with HIV/AIDS in Africa. I am really smitten by the amazingly beautiful telephone wire pieces, the sweet animal figurines and nifty light fixture which I believe is made from recycled plastic bottles.

Happy Weekend

Hand-printed Linen Yo-Yos
Hey all! I'm feeling a little under the weather today and all I want to do is be home and crawl into bed. I've gotten a little behind on some of my updates and hope to start anew Monday. Tomorrow I turn the big two five, yeah I'm going to be a quarter of a century old, 25 years old! I'm just hoping I feel a little better tomorrow for some movie time with my honey and beach trip on Sunday. Wish me well please! Anyway I've been meaning to work on some Yo-Yo's with some fabric I've accumulated. And I just got another bag full of fabric samples from work! Have a great weekend everyone!

Inspiration & mystyle: linen skirt

Hey all! Hope you are having a lovely day! Here is a picture of me wearing a skirt I made a few months back that I have been meaning to share. It's a wrap around linen skirt with pleating at the top. I made this right around the time I was working on those origami boxes. I wanted to add some interest to otherwise simple skirt. What do you think?

Some cream/tan/white images of inspiration! Sometimes simple and subtle is most beautiful!

Eco Cool & DYI: Panamanian Eco-Friendly Lunchboxes!

In preparation for a day visit to my aunts farm for horseback riding, swimming in the river and having a picnic my dear aunt woke me up early with delicious smells of arroz con guandu, gallina de patio (free range chicken cooked in traditional tomato based sauce), and fried platano maduro (fried sweet plantains)! Normally when I visit Chiriqui I try to sleep in as late as possible and just relax, but this particular Sunday I just could not stay put. When I rolled out of bed and wandered to the kitchen I was stricken with the site of the giant pots of food ready for our day. Then I noticed my aunt was wrapping the food in giant palm leaves! I asked, "Tia que es eso?" and she explained that it was a mono...uh what a monkey?....at this point I she furthered explained that that was the name for the traditional Panamanian way to wrap food in a palm leaf called bijao. When finished it looks like a giant tamale. At this point I was like wow! This is totally awesome because you have your food container and plate all in one! It's eco-friendly! Biodegradable! Hours later when we arrived by the riverside and set-up our picnic the food was still warm and just perfect.

How to make mono aka Panamanian Eco-Friendly Lunchbox

a) first take clean palm leaf or bijao b) fill with food c) wrap like a burrito-fold sides in first then top and bottom d) tie with some string

Happy Monday! Sorry I've been busy. I have lots of ideas and wonderful things to share this week! So visit back. Isn't this kitten too cute for words! I means it hurts almost just looking at this picture! It's from French blog Les petites choses de Piou. I don't know what that means and I cannot quite remember where I found this site (ooops!) but she has some lovely pictures so take a look.
